In the context of HeroEngine, a bone generally refers to one of the basic building blocks of a character. Bones are not created in HeroEngine, but in 3ds Max or Maya. Bones, as opposed to helpers, can be used on a character to mark a position for things such as Sound nodes, Particle nodes, and effects.

The term Bones may also refer to:
- Root bone, or Bip01, the parent node for the rest of a skeleton
- Synthetic Root Bone, where the server tracks the motion and position of a character
- Rigging a versatile weapon bone, tips on how to deal with weapons
Commonly-used bones
In working with the Fx System or other animations, certain commonly-used bones are:
- Bip01 : Parent node for the skeleton
- Bip01 Head : The head of the character
- Bip01 L Hand : The character's left hand
- Bip01 R Hand : The character's right hand
